A padel racket is a real investment, and a few simple habits go a long way toward protecting it and keeping it playing the way it did on day one.
Storage: avoid heat and cold extremes
Never leave your racket in a hot car or direct sun for extended periods — high heat can weaken the resin holding the frame together and affect the core material over time. Extreme cold can make the frame more brittle and prone to cracking on impact. A padel-specific cover or bag, kept at room temperature, is the safest home for your racket between sessions.
Cleaning: keep the face clear of grit
Wipe the hitting surface down after each session with a slightly damp cloth to remove court dust and grit, which can wear down the surface texture over time and reduce spin. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners — mild soap and water is enough.
Grip and overgrip: replace before it gets slick
Your overgrip is the first thing to wear out, and a worn, slipping grip changes how confidently you can swing. Most players replace their overgrip every few weeks of regular play — more often if you play in hot, sweaty conditions. It's a small, inexpensive habit that protects your control on every shot.
Check the frame regularly
Every so often, inspect the frame edge for small chips or cracks, especially if you've scraped the court during a low shot. Small edge damage can spread with continued impact, so it's worth catching early rather than waiting until it affects performance.
